The baseball team put together a strong performance to sweep CCNY in a conference doubleheader Sunday afternoon at Roberto Clemente State Park in the Bronx.

They won the first game, 23-11, in a marathon scoring battle that lasted three hours and 20 minutes. They scored nine runs in the first two innings, and at least one run each inning the rest of the way.

Alberto Nieves batted 3-for-3 with one double, four runs, and two RBI, while Arby Gega batted 3-for-6 with one RBI.

Adam Hoyle batted 2-for-3 with a double, home run, three RBI, and four runs scored. The homer was a blast to left field that brought the team bench to its feet.

In the second game, Baruch (3-4, 3-1 CUNYAC) rallied with five runs in the final two innings to clinch an exciting 7-6 comeback win.

Cesar Chaves, who had three hits & three RBI, knocked in two runs and Nieves singled home the fifth for a 6-5 score in the bottom of the sixth inning. The runs were all scored with two outs.

Max Loehrke started the one-out rally by reaching base on an error and being pinch-run by the speedster Ray Mowatt.

Mowatt stole second, Thomas Russo reached base on an error, and Paul Alfano was intentionally walked to load up the base.

That set up Charles Dantone and he delivered a suicide squeeze to tie the game, while Chavez then singled home Russo with the winning run.

Nieves pitched a complete game victory with six strikeouts.

CCNY, which is coached by former Baruch baseball & basketball alum Scott Losche ('00), drops to 3-2 overall and 2-2 in CUNYAC.
